The Lowdown
Elementor is a visual web design tool that allows you to design your web pages with a drag-and-drop editor without writing any code. It's open-source (if you want to add code) and has long been a go-to design solution for individuals and teams using Wordpress. Elementor removes the customization limitations that often come with building your website on Wordpress. Without a visual editing tool, you're limited to the design of the theme you install for your site, even though some themes allow you to use the Wordpress native editor Gutenberg. Still, Elementor's design capabilities allow you to extend the design and functionality of your site in ways Gutenberg cannot.
Elementor offers two main solutions, a Wordpress plugin and a Cloud Website Builder.
- The Elementor plugin is a visual drag-and-drop editor you add to your site to create your own templates and pages one-by-one. You can install the free version of the plugin, or upgrade to Elementor Pro.
- The Cloud Website Builder is a one-stop shop solution for people who want to build Wordpress sites with Google Cloud hosting, domain connection, SSL & CDN, and more. This option requires an annual subscription and does not have a free trial or free version.
With Elementor, you can:
- Build highly-customizable websites with a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG block editor
- Import ready-made template pages and blocks like headers, footers, sections, and more
- Position blocks and elements specifically for desktop, tablet, and mobile screens
- Unlock more advanced design elements and features with the Elementor Pro paid plan
